Like a Friendly Chat Window for Your AI

Open WebUI is like giving your AI models a friendly face. Instead of typing commands in a black window, you get a nice chat interface in your web browser - just like popular AI services, but running on your own computer.

Why This Matters

Most people find command-line interfaces intimidating. Open WebUI makes powerful AI accessible to everyone by providing a familiar chat interface.

And because it runs on your computer, you get all the benefits of privacy and ownership without paying monthly fees to big tech companies.

Installation Instructions

These instructions work on Windows, Mac, and Linux computers

Step 1: Install Docker

Docker is a tool that makes it easy to run software like Open WebUI. Download it from:

docker.com

Install it like any other app. On Windows and Mac, just follow the setup wizard. On Linux, you might need to run a few commands in the terminal.

Step 2: Download and Run Open WebUI

Open your command prompt/terminal and run this single command:

docker run -d -p 3000:8080 --add-host=host.docker.internal:host-gateway -v open-webui:/app/backend/data --name open-webui --restart always ghcr.io/open-webui/open-webui:main

This command downloads Open WebUI and starts it running. It might take a minute or two the first time.

Step 3: Access Open WebUI

Open your web browser and go to:

http://localhost:3000

The first time, you'll need to create an account. This is just for your own use on your computer.

Step 4: Connect to Your AI Models

In Open WebUI, go to Settings (gear icon) and add your Ollama connection:

  • URL: http://host.docker.internal:11434
  • Click "Save" and restart Open WebUI

Now you can chat with any model you've downloaded with Ollama!
